One of the most beautiful and accurate pieces I’ve ever read on this time of life . Really beautifully written. It’s such an odd time - waiting and watching - and I can identify with everything you’ve mentioned including the regret. And a father not ready to leave and all the strange ways his mind worked. It was exhausting and painful in equal measure. I used the TS Elliot poem at dad’s memorial.

Gosh Such BEAUTIFUL writing.

Much love.

Ah, beautiful story. My own Dad passed years ago - in chapters, with numerous rehearsals, as seems to be the case with yours. His many "final" conversations left me and my six siblings with several humorous lines that are now part of the family oral tradition. Thus, he is still with us. Thanks for the reminder about interviewing aging parents. I wish we had done more of that with mine.
